The Importance of Sustainability in 2021

Do you consider the effects of sustainability when purchasing new products?

The focus on sustainability is bigger now than every before, and it’s no surprise. Over the last year more and more people have had the chance to consume more information on how their eco footprint is affecting the planet, with documentaries like David Attenborough’s ‘A life on our planet’ and ‘Seaspiracy’ really bringing home the direct impacts of our actions on earth.

It’s hard to get the whole planet to make a drastic change in their lifestyle, but how hard can it be to change something small? As insignificant as making sure the packaging of a product is 100% recyclable?

I’m sure we could all hold ourselves a little more accountable towards the things we buy and use, and it’s easier now than ever before.

Introducing weDo

This month we’ve had the pleasure of introducing a new, naturally sourced, vegan haircare product brand to our Abington salon in Northampton. All products are made from 100% recyclable material and use 93-99.7% natural origin ingredients, including ethically sourced murumuru and cupuacu butters that you can find in their day and night creams.

1 product bought = 8 plastic bottles removed from the environment!

In partnership with plasticbank, weDo have pledged to remove 8 plastic bottles from the environment for every single one of their products bought. So far they’ve collected over 4 million bottles and counting!

The current product range is made up of several shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and cosmetic products including hair & body creams and elixirs. One of their best sellers is by no far the weDo no plastic shampoo bar. Lasting up to 80 washes this new natural formula shampoo has won awards at the Marie Clair UK Hair Awards 2021.

What are we doing?

Here at MAJOR we’re always thinking of new ways in how we can cut down our waste, recycle more, and just generally do the best we can to keep our environmental footprint to the absolute minimum.

This year we’ve introduced Digi-Mags to our three Northampton hair salons. Our guests will be able to scan a QR code from their chair and browse 90+ new magazines. For us this cuts down 51kg of paper per year which equates to about 1.35 trees saved every year!

Due to the pandemic we first introduced ecotowels to our salons. Granted, the switch from cotton towels was noticeable at first, but now it’s the norm. Ecotowels are 100% biodegradable and made solely from natural products using wood pulp and plant fibres.

We’ve got you covered!

At MAJOR Hairdressing you can rest easy that we’re doing everything in our power to reduce our environmental footprint. So you can sit back, relax and enjoy your experience.
